Der Tageslichtjob schlägt gerade mal wieder voll durch, so dass ich (fast erwartungsgemäß) mit meiner magischen Sommerreise ein wenig hinterher hinke. Hier auf alle Fälle schon mal Block 4 - er heißt "Reise ins Ungewisse" und gibt damit schon eine kleine Vorschau auf die Reise, die die drei Prinzen von Serendip nicht ganz freiwillig antreten...

Die Fotos unten zeigen wieder mögliche Quiltlayouts - zwei von unzähligen Möglichkeiten, die man mit EQ8 in Nullkommanichts entwerfen könnte...

My daylight job has really pushed itself into the foreground so that I am way behind with my magical summer trip. Here block 4 - it is called "Journey into the Unknown" and gives a small glimpse into the journey which the three princes of Serendip will make unvoluntarily.

The pictures below show possible quilt layouts - two of uncountable options which could be designed very quickly in EQ8...

Der nächste Block , der im Rahmen meiner Summer Challenge entstanden ist, heißt "Three Princes". Im zugrundeliegenden Block habe ich die Zahl 3 noch einigermaßen abgebildet - wenn EQ8 Serendipity Kaleidoscope mit der wundersamen Umgestaltung des Basisblocks fertig ist, bleibt davon allerdings nicht so viel übrig... :-D Gleichzeitig lerne ich gerade, dass EQ8 Serendipity Kaleidoscope ganz besonders viel Spaß macht, wenn man es mit asymmetrischen Blöcken "füttert". :-)

Die Anleitung mit Schablonen und Foundations für diesen Block UND der Fortsetzung der Geschichte des Königs von Serendip ist wieder in unserem Webshop zu finden.

Und natürlich konnte ich die Finger nicht von möglichen Quilt Layouts lassen - der erste Quilt besteht wieder ausschließlich aus dem aktuellen Block und der zweite Quilt versammelt alle drei bisher genähten Blöcke.

The next block which I designed for my summer challenge is called "Three Princes". I managed to translate the number 3 in the underlying block somehow - once EQ8 Serendipity Kaleidscope has done with the magic transformation of the underlying block, not much is left of the concept "3" howerver. :-D At the same time I am learning that EQ8 Serendipity Kaleidoscope is especially fun if "nourished" with asymmetrical blocks. :-)

The pattern including templates and foundations for this block AND the sequel of the story of the Kingdom of Serendip can again be found in our webshop.

And of course I couldn't leave my fingers off of possible quilt layouts - the first quilt consists again only of the current block and the second quilt assembles all three blocks made so far.

Und mit "The Wise King" geht meine Summer Serendipity Reise weiter. Mit der eigentlichen Geschichte hinter dem wunderbaren Wort Serendipity fangen wir mit diesem Block bzw. mit der zugehörigen Anleitung allerdings erst so richtig an. :-)

Blöcke, die mit der EQ8 Serendipity-Funktion Kaleidoscope entstehen, sind ja nicht zwingend einfach zu nähen. Bei dem weisen König ist insbesondere die Mitte eine Herausforderung - wegen der vielen Nähte, die sich treffen. Hier ist das Bügeleisen mal wieder die beste Freundin...

(Und vielleicht sollte ich mir tatsächlich auch einen Clapper zulegen, nachdem ich vor kurzem von einfachbunt Quilts gelernt habe, was das ist! :-D)

Die Fotos unten zeigen, was für spannende (und arbeitsaufwendige) Quilts mit diesen Blöcken entstehen können. Der erste Quilt besteht nur aus "The Wise King", der zweite Quilt ist eine Kombination aus "The Wise King" und "Summer in Serendip".

And with "The Wise King" my Summer Serendipity voyage continues. The actual story behind the wonderful word serendipity only really starts with this block and with the pattern however. :-)

Blocks which were created with the EQ8 Serendipity function Kaleidoscope aren't necessarily easy to make. For the Wise King, especially the block centre is a challenge - because of the many seams which meet at this intersection. Here, the pressing iron is, as so often, your best friend..

The fotos below show what exciting (and time-consuming) quilts can result from these blocks. The first block only consists of "The Wise King", the second quilt is a combination of "The Wise King" and "Summer in Serendip".

So, da ist er also, der erste Block zu meiner ganz persönlichen Summer Challenge 2023...

In unseren EQ8-Kursen zeige ich ja immer begeistert, welch Schatzkästchen sich hinter der #eq8 Funktion "Serendipity" verbirgt. Gleichzeitig mache ich außerhalb von EQ8 tatsächlich viel zu wenig damit. Also habe ich "My Summer Serendipity" gestartet - mit noch ungewissem Ausgang... :-)

Wer selbst nicht mit EQ8 arbeitet, kann sich die ausführliche Anleitung kostenlos herunterladen. Und auch das "Reisetagebuch" bzw. die märchenhafte Geschichte, die sich hinter "Serendipity" verbirgt, mitlesen...

Here it is, the first block for my very personal summer challenge 2023...

In our EQ8 classes, I always show with a lot of enthusiasm what treasure trough the EQ8 function "Serendipity" represents. At the same time, I am not using Serendipity not nearly enough outside of EQ8. So I have started "My Summer Serendipity" - as yet with undetermined outcome... :-)

If you don't use EQ8 yourselv, you can download the pattern (the English version is currently still work in progress). And also read the "travel diary" or the fairy tale which hides behind "Serendipity"...

Wie könnte mein Urlaub besser anfangen als mit einem Besuch in einem Quiltgeschäft. Und in diesem Fall im Quilthouse in Purgstall an der Erlauf in Niederösterreich. Den weißen und den blauen Stoff brauche ich für meine persönliche Sommer-Challenge, über die ich demnächst berichten werde. :-) Die Stoffe rechts sind quasi "Beifang" - NATÜRLICH konnte ich bei einem Stoff mit Leuchttürmen nicht nein sagen... ;-) Der Rollschneider wird Bestandteil des Nähaußenpostens hier in unserer österreichischen "Ferienwohnung".

How could my holidays start better than with a visit in a quilt shop. In this case in Quilthouse in Purgstall an der Erlauf in Lower Austria. The white and the blue fabric are meant for my very own summer challenge (news about that coming soon! :-)) The fabrics to the right are "by-catch" - OF COURSE I couldn't say no to a fabric with lighthouses... ;-) The rotary cutter will become part of the sewing outpost here in our Austrian "holiday flat".

Und schon wieder war der 10. des Monats da und es gab eine neue Block Challenge von The Electric Quilt Company! Diesmal habe ich Vertical Strips als Layout verwendet und mir schwer Mühe gegeben, den ursprünglichen Block ein wenig zu verschleiern. ;-)

Macht doch auch noch mit bei dem EQ8 Block Spotlight! Es macht Spaß, ist eine kleine Herausforderung und mit ein bisschen Glück kommt ein wunderbarer Quiltentwurf dabei heraus. Übrigens sind auch die anderen Entwürfe, die schon online sind, extrem sehenswert!

And again the 10th of the month has come an gone and there was a new Block Challenge by The Electric Quilt Company! This time I used vertical strips as layout and worked hard to disguise the original block a little. ;-)

Why don't you join in for this month's EQ8 Block Spotlight? It is fun, will give you a small challenge and with a little luck, you will have a wonderful quilt design in the end. By the way, the other designs which are already online are highly worth seeing!

Vor ein paar Wochen habe ich schon mal Blöcke gepostet, die zu diesem Quilt gehören. Sampler Quilts sind einfach super und wie eine gute Schachtel Pralinen - jede Einheit ein Genuss, weil es nie langweilig wird. :-)

Die Blöcke sind zur Hälfte Eigenentwürfe und bilden zusammen mit den "historischen" Blöcke die Grundlage für das Buch "Patchwork Puzzle ZWEI", das wir auch (wieder) in unserem Webshop haben. Falls jemand eine eigene Version des "Tranquility" Quilts nähen will... :-)

Some weeks ago, I posted blocks which belong to this quilt. Sampler quilts are great and like a good box of chocolates - every piece a delight because it never gets boring. :-)

Half of the blocks are own designs and, together with the "historic" blocks, form the basis for the book "Patchwork Puzzle ZWEI" which we (again) sell through our Webshop. Sorry, only available in German. If somebody would like to make an own version of the "Tranquility Quilt... :-)

Vermutlich wird mich nicht jede Etappe von @orndinggoesnorway zu einem Quilt-Entwurf inspirieren, aber bei der Burg Heidenreichstein hat es dann doch Pling gemacht. :-) An dem Block in der Mitte habe ich ziemlich herumgebastelt und bin inzwischen recht zufrieden mit den angedeuteten Renaissancetürmen in den Ecken und mit dem Efeu, das die Burg umrankt...

Most likely it will not every single leg of @orndinggoesnorway to inspire a quilt design, but Burg Heidenreichstein gave the necessary impetus. :-) The block in the middle presented rather a challenge and now I am quite satisfied with the implied Renaissance towers in the corners and with the ivy covering the fortress...

Erst vor kurzem habe ich das EQ8 Block Spotlight von The Electric Quilt Company bewusst wahrgenommen. Und ich kann anderen EQ8 NutzerInnen nur wärmstens empfehlen, sich diese "Monatsaufgabe" näher anzuschauen!:-)

Mein Juni-Entwurf zu dem Block "Nebraska Tulips" hat mir enorm viel Spaß gemacht! :-) Und das obwohl ich dabei festgestellt habe, dass ich nicht so der Typ für diagonal angeordnete Appli-Blumen bin...:-D

Das neue EQ8 Block Spotlight gibt es immer rund um den 10. des Monats.

Only quite recently, I noticed the EQ8 Block Spotlight by The Electric Quilt Company. And I would really like to recommend this "monthly homework" to other EQ8 users! :-)

I had a lot of fun with my June design based on the block "Nebraska Tulips"! :-) And this although I realized that diagonally arranged applique flowers are not really my thing... :-D

The new EQ8 Block Spotlight is available around the 10th of each month.
